The former Men Behaving Badly star has slowly made a return to the spotlight after
being awarded a record-breaking £5million compensation after contracting the life-threatening bug.

In an interview she revealed she is in constant pain, but laughed it off saying: ‘It sounds such a hard luck story.

‘You get used to it and I’m on painkillers. I’m prescribed six a day, but I cut it down to three. They make you a bit, um, very forgetful.

'You’re halfway through a sentence and forget what you were talking about, go into a room and forget why. And dates! I have to write everything down!’.

Speaking out: Leslie Ash has spoken out about her botched lip-boosting procedure in a bid to inspire other women to be safe with plastic surgery

After suffering cruel taunts over her lips, then falling seriously ill after contracting the hospital super-bug MSSA, Ash is finally bouncing back with a new-found confidence.

She tells the Daily Mirror: My obsession with looking young began six years ago when I experimented with fillers to smooth out lined around my mouth.

'My lips seemed to be disappearing into my face. I decided to try a dermal filler and my first procedure went like a dream.

'Two years later, when the fillers had broken down, I returned to the same person for a top-up.

'I trusted her and it didn't occur to me to question what she was doing. That was a mistake I will always reject.

'As everyone knows ,my lips were injected and I suffered an allergic reaction. The media had a field day and I became a figure of fun.'

'There is so much information on the internet, but beware the cowboys and abusers who are part of this multi-million pound business.

'As long as it (the industry) remains unregulated and until the Government sets out some rules, it is not safe.'

After years of negative feelings over her lips, Ash has come to terms with her altered mouth and accepted the way she looks.

She said: 'I have decided it is time to stop hiding. I feel it is time to talk openly about the mistakes I made. I've had some corrective treatment and I feel much happier with how I look and feel about myself now.'

Bronzed Leslie Ash looks a picture of health partying with husband in Ibiza

Just one month ago Leslie Ash's fans would have barely recognised the actress.

Walking with the aid of a stick like an old lady, her face was puffy and she was said to be on a constant regime of painkillers.

But fast-forward four weeks and the Men Behaving Badly star looked a picture of health at the Ibiza Rocks music festival on Tuesday.

Back from the brink: Leslie Ash, with her husband Lee Chapman, looks tanned and healthy in Ibiza

The 48-year-old may have still had the walking stick, but she no longer appeared pale, weak and withdrawn.

Instead, Ms Ash looked tanned and healthy as she and her husband of 19 years, Lee Chapman, enjoyed themselves at the event on the Mediterranean island.

It's a dramatic turnaround for the actress, who has suffered major problems following the hospital superbug infection which led to a £5million payout.

She contracted MSSA, a strain of MRSA, while being treated for two broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Mr Chapman was arrested on suspicion of assault but released without charge when she claimed the injuries were sustained during an 'energetic' sex session.

Frail: Ms Ash looked weak and puffy-faced in Los Angeles last month

When a frail-looking Ms Ash was photographed in Los Angeles last month, she was filming an ITV documentary about bungled cosmetic surgery.

The actress was roundly ridiculed after she reacted badly to treatment in 2002. Her overly-inflated lips - the result of £300 collagen and Botox injections - led to the nickname Trout Pout.

It was in January this year that Miss Ash reached her £5million out-of-court settlement with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
